45th Parallel Climate & Ecosystem Monitoring

BSI is pursuing development of a comprehensive climate and ecosystem monitoring program that would span the 45th parallel and include the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.  The project will be designed to give scientists worldwide access to the data collected. We expect the project to have the following components:

  • Monitoring how the GYE's ecosystems and human communities respond and adapt to climate variability and change will help us to make more informed decisions for how we adapt as a global society to possible climate change
  • High-resolution networks of sensors and field sites support the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON)Yellowstone site
  • Variables to be monitored include climate, species, and the environment across the northern GYE
  • Using this network as a baseline, what are the likely future outcomes for protected areas, targeted species, water resources, and local communities?
