Mountain Climate & Ecosystem Dynamics

lisa5.jpg BSI is a leader in research on tree rings, climate variability (especially drought), and land use in the GYE and Northern Rockies, helping to understand historic variability and develop future scenarios for change. Our ongoing research projects, partnering with the USGS and others, monitor long-term snow pack trends, alpine lakes and climate change, and avalanche hazards. BSI climate and ecosystem research has been supported by 5 separate NSF grants ($460,000 since 2000), competitive grants from NASA and USDA ($618,000 since 2000), and partnerships with the USGS and NPS.
